Chapter 36. Recent College Graduates: Le... > Networking with College Alumni

Networking with College Alumni

College graduates have access to a powerful networking circle in their college alumni association. According to collegegrad.com, more than 90% of active alumni are willing to help new graduates of their alma maters. Tap into this network by following these guidelines:

Contact your school’s alumni office to access its alumni database.

Search for alumni who are working in your chosen field, for your target employer, or in your city or the market of choice.

Develop a target list of alumni to contact first by phone or e-mail. Then follow up by snail mail.

Schedule face-to-face informational and fact-finding meetings whenever possible.

Attend local alumni association meetings in the city or region you are targeting—and get actively involved. The more involved and well known you become, the more willing people will be to help.
