Chapter 24. Welcome to My Web: Creating Your Online Presence

A Web site is a passive, yet highly effective, networking and promotional tool. If you have not yet done so, consider establishing a Web site to help advance your networking and career goals.

Make it easy for prospective employers, clients, and networking contacts to find you online. Choose a simple and memorable Web address (perhaps your first initial and last name plus dot-com). Add your Web address to your business card, letterhead, resume, and any promotional literature you produce.

Be sure your Web site is attractively designed, reads well, and is packed with the information visitors need to decide to hire you or take whatever action you desire. Depending on your networking and career goals, content might include your resume, professional biography, a list of services offered, testimonials from employers or satisfied clients, a professional photo (head shot), and contact information.

Always include a hyperlink from your e-mail message to your Web site. Consider embedding a hyperlink in the body of the e-mail message and in your comprehensive signature file.
