Part II: Building Networking Relationships > Nurturing Your Support System

Chapter 9. Nurturing Your Support System

Expanding your network involves more than just meeting new contacts. To maintain your circle, you also must nurture those contacts by staying in touch. Do not just walk away from a positive encounter. Follow up a valuable connection with a handwritten note and business card. Or send an e-mail with an attention-getting subject line in which you mention a mutual acquaintance, extend a lunch invitation, or refer to a memorable comment made during your first encounter.

Keep your contacts in the loop. When a contact arranges a job interview, let the contact know where the interview process stands. Reciprocate whenever possible by making introductions or referrals for your contacts.
