Chapter 8. Listen Generously > Be Seriously Curious

Be Seriously Curious

When you were four years old, you were curious about everything. Nothing escaped your interest. Everything got your undivided attention. But somewhere along the way, we learned to look cool, as if we've seen it all, as if nothing surprises us. To be a great connector, reconnect with some of that four-year-old curiosity. Find a role model. Anyone under the age of five will do. Notice the questions he asks, the energy he has for finding out.

When four-year-old Matt saw the fisherman bring his boat to the dock, he ran up to have a look at the catch. He had dozens of questions: "Why is that one striped, but this one is spotted?" "Will that one grow any bigger?" "Are all of these fish good to eat?" "Which one is best?" "Do you like to touch them?" "Can they make noise under water?"
