Chapter 8. Listen Generously

Remember the old story about movie star Zsa Zsa Gabor? At a party, she was talking on and on about her very favorite subject: herself. Finally, she stopped short and turned to her companion. "But dahhhling," she purred, "we must talk about you for a change. How do you like my dress?"

Of course, you're not that self-centered. But chances are you aren't listening as well as you could. In school, we learn to read and write, and we may have a speech class, but we rarely receive much instruction in listening effectively. To network, you must listen—and Listen Generously.
