Following Up

Wouldn't it be great to follow up creatively and consistently? Sure, we recommend that you use an electronic database. But, technology isn't the whole answer to keeping in touch. The real key to following up is having something to follow up about. So, be sure that, in addition to talking about yourself, you also find out what's on the other person's agenda. What are her challenges, interests, needs, enthusiasms, dilemmas? Then you can follow up based on her needs, not your need for a new client or your interest in getting a better job. The best relationships are built on giving. When you Listen Generously and focus on being more of a go-giver than a go-getter, following up becomes a whole lot easier.
