Figure Out Your Agenda

More than 85 percent of the people we surveyed as they arrived at networking events hadn't figured out exactly why they'd come. They knew they wanted something, but they hadn't figured out what! They hadn't thought about whom they wanted to meet, what they wanted to find out, or how they were going to achieve their goals. They didn't know what they wanted to share, to tell people about, to pass along. Predictably, about the same percentage of people surveyed on their way out said they wished they'd gotten more out of the event.

To be an effective networker, you need to have a clear purpose in mind before you begin talking with people. That purpose comes from knowing what's on your ever-changing Agenda. As you focus on your Agenda, you'll feel eager and excited about connecting with people.
