The classical know what you want decision dogma prevents us from doubting the one thing about which we probably have the greatest doubts—our goals. Thus, positive uncertainty recommends an experimental approach to goal setting, as suggested by James G. March in “The Technology of Foolishness,” in which he says we should treat goals as hypotheses.
