Expand the Meaning of Being Realistic

When making up your mind, the typical decision-making battle cry has been, “Be realistic.” That is not the wrong battle cry, but it is not the whole battle cry either. Being realistic is being aware of things as they really are and having an unbiased awareness—uninfluenced by emotions, feelings, and personal beliefs.

But you really do want emotions, feelings, and personal beliefs to have an influence in your decision making. Positive uncertainty asks you to be realistic in the sense that:
