Adjusting Your Attitude by Improving Your Appearance

Here are seven general activities that you can undertake to maintain or improve the way you appear to others. Check ( ) the ideas that you think might work for you. Remember, your goal is to present an image that suggests quality and productivity.


  • Look healthy. Devote time to an exercise program–anything that will create a healthier appearance. Whatever you’ve been doing, turn it up one notch.

    If you’ve been doing no exercise at all, make it a point to do something every week:

    • At work or at the mall, park your car or truck a block away instead of driving around looking for the space closest to the door;

    • Walk around the block before you go to bed each night;

    • Use the stairs instead of taking the elevator.

    If you’ve been doing some exercise from time to time, but without a regular commitment:

    • Choose one specific activity and commit to do it three times a week;

    • Sign up for a trial membership at a health club.

    If you’ve been exercising on a regular basis:

    • Notch it up to 20 minutes of aerobic activity (plus warm-up and cool-down), three times per week.
