Chapter 18. A Positive Attitude About Diversity

A major change has taken place in the workforce: the cultural mix of employees has become more diversified. It’s not unusual to find several cultures represented in a company, in a branch office, or even within a small work group. People from different ethnic backgrounds, social groups, genders, and lifestyles work together–and depend on each other–to carry out their responsibilities and complete projects on time, efficiently, and with first-rate quality.

The performance standards are the same, but the workforce mix is different. A new employee will likely work with and for a wider range of people than those he or she grew up with. People who have been in business for years will likely work with and supervise a wider range of people than those they worked with or supervised in the past.
