About the Authors

The late Elwood N. Chapman retired in 1977 as a professor at Chaffey College and a visiting lecturer at Claremont Graduate School after 29 years of successful college teaching. He was a graduate of the University of California. Mr. Chapman was also co-founder of Crisp Publications, and author of more than a dozen books by Crisp.

Wil McKnight, author of this Fourth Edition, is a writer and third-generation publisher, primarily in the areas of supervisory training, vocational education, and work study.

Mr. McKnight has a B.A. from Carnegie Mellon University (back when they called it Carnegie Tech), and an M.B.A. from Stanford. He has written several self-study books and checklists for construction supervisors, some of them based on Crisp Publications. You can reach him via e-mail at wilmck3@aol.com.

In Memoriam

Elwood N. Chapman died in the fall of 1995. Known as “Chap” to his friends and colleagues, he touched the lives of many through his teaching and writing. Though Chap’s typewriter is silent, he continues to speak to us through the books that remain his legacy. We miss his cheerful smile, twinkling eyes, and wonderful attitude.

Amoebas, hand-drawn by Chap, were a central theme in earlier editions of Attitude. Because they divide in two about every hour, they illustrate that the best way for humans to keep a positive attitude is to constantly renew it by sharing it with others. Amoebas also have no ethnicity, no age, and no gender, further symbolizing attitude as a characteristic enjoyed by all.

How to Use This Book

A Crisp Learning Fifty-Minute™ Book can be used in variety of ways. Individual self-study is one of the most common. However, many organizations use Fifty-Minute books for pre-study before a classroom training session. Other organizations use the books as a part of a system-wide learning program–supported by video and other media based on the content in the books. Still others work with Crisp Learning to customize the material to meet their specific needs and reflect their culture. Regardless of how it is used, we hope you will join the more than 20 million satisfied learners worldwide who have completed a Fifty-Minute Book.
