The Rotten Apple Principle

Given enough time, one rotten apple will spoil the rest of the barrel. Given enough time, one negative staff member will destroy the positive attitude of the others. To prevent such a breakdown, the negative person must be counseled until he or she makes an attitude adjustment–or some other appropriate action is taken. It is essential to protect and maintain the positive attitude of the rest of the staff. Denial and procrastination are not acceptable options; nearly every time, a negative attitude will only fester and get worse.
