The Place

The location of a communication can give you more information about the evidence. Ask yourself a variety of questions to see if the place has any relevance to the statement. These questions might include:

Were co-workers around who were meant to hear this?

Was it a location where the person would feel defensive, weak, or insecure?

Was it in a setting in which the speaker would feel comfortable or uncomfortable?

Was this e-mail copied to anyone else?

If it was oral, who was in earshot?

If it was written, who else would be reading it? Could it have been directed toward that other person?
