Chapter 14. Judging Arguments

You now have the tools to avoid accepting arguments at face value. You can recognize the non-critical thinking tactics of deceptive reasoning and emotional manipulation and how to handle them. When you do, be assertive without becoming confrontational or hostile.

Assertive questioning means you do not passively accept or aggressively attack. When you passively accept the ideas and reasons of another or assert a position that has randomly popped into your head, you are thinking non-critically. When you attack, you are practicing emotional manipulation.
