Chapter 10. Seeking Clarity

An important part of critical thinking involves assessing the value of evidence. Just looking at conclusions will not lead you to the truth. You must assess the strength of the reasoning behind the conclusion to determine if you should agree. This begins with discovering if you clearly understand what has been said or written.

You cannot get to the core of the points being made in an argument if the meaning of words and phrases is confusing. This confusion must be addressed before you can understand the substance of an argument.
