Chapter 7. Defining Arguments

Throughout our day at work, we most often base our decisions on arguments or explanations about a situation. In this book, critical thinking is explored through the framework of these two aspects of thinking—arguments and explanations.

First, we will look at the framework for recognizing and evaluating arguments. We are not using the word argument to mean having a nasty face-off with someone. Instead, we are looking at the framework critical thinkers use to persuade someone of a position. Explanations are covered in Part III.
