Pinpointing Discussion Issues

Sometimes in a conversation, people are discussing two separate issues without even realizing it. One person is talking about apples and the other about oranges. This can lead to hurt feelings, confusion, and major mistakes. Sometimes one party might purposely confuse the issue to win support. Or the party might attempt to avoid an aspect of the issue that she wants to obscure.
