Making Changes Smoothly

Change one thing at a time—slow and easy does it.

Define your goal in simple, active, and positive words.

Write your change goal and post it where you see it daily.

If your change affects other people, tell them what you plan to do and why. Discuss your goal. If they have other ideas, listen. The discussion itself may lead to a better working relationship.

A great deal of practice may be needed before a new behavior becomes natural.

Remember, you don’t have to be perfect.
