Chapter 14. Prioritizing Work Overload > Tips for Meeting with Your Manager

Tips for Meeting with Your Manager

Request and plan for regular meetings with your manager. Ad hoc meetings are useful but not a substitute.

Keep it short. Thirty minutes every week might work.

Make it “your” meeting with your agenda.

Follow your prioritized agenda.

Bring solutions and important questions.

Speak concisely. Give details that are absolutely essential.

Listen.

Summarize. Reconfirm what decisions you have made together.

The first step toward control of your managerial duties is to list all of your office tasks and then rate them. Use the chart on the next page to determine your priorities.
