Chapter 17. Identify Your Stressors > Turn Your Telephone into a Time-Managemen...

Turn Your Telephone into a Time-Management Tool

Interruptions are hard to control, and the phone is the biggest offender. Let your telephone work for you, rather than control you:

Assert yourself to end calls tactfully. Don’t let the other person control your time.

Tell the caller before you transfer a call: “Here’s the number in case you get cut off.”

Before you make a call, make notes about the key points.

Make your follow-up notes during the phone call.

Control “small talk” and get to the purpose of the call quickly.

If someone wanders from the point, mention a word from their coments to bridge back to the point.
