Part IV: Communicating for Results > Effective Presentation Skills

Chapter 28. Effective Presentation Skills

Administrators have many opportunities for oral communication. For example, attending a meeting, hosting visiting salespeople, or explaining your duties to trainees can lead to public speaking in many different settings. JILL AND THE IMPROMPTU SPEECH

Jill is invited, along with her manager, to attend a meeting of all department heads in the company. She is not expecting to say anything, only to sit and listen. During her manager’s presentation, he is asked a question about the department’s plans for the coming year. He turns to Jill and says, “Jill, you’ve been working on this project while I’ve been away. Maybe you could say a few words about how this project got started, where it stands, and where it is going.”
