Chapter 26. Conveying Bad News Tactfully

Often in business we must break bad news to good people. This is one time where brevity takes a back seat to tact. Tone is important. Choose your words carefully; select words that are courteous and positive. Don’t use qualifiers, passive construction, or euphemisms to avoid accepting responsibility.

For example, a company president wrote the following to her employees:
