Three Steps to Become Calm

These critical steps take only a few seconds. They can make the difference between losing control and gaining it. These steps will help you to calm down.

  1. Slow down your breathing rate and speak softly. Take a breath and relax.

  2. Be aware of your feelings. Are you embarrassed, offended, frightened, or confused? Be aware that certain situations cause you to lose control. For example, you may become frustrated when you are rushing to reach a deadline.

  3. Understand the true cause of your reactions. Are you upset because you have been unjustly accused of doing something?
