Chapter 7. Making the Most of Memory > External Memory Aids

External Memory Aids

Memory techniques are not meant to replace the use of external memory aids, tools that people have created to help you remember. Calendars, files, lists, and electronic reminders can remove much of the burden from your memory and the chance from your daily life.

Calendars

A calendar should both tell you about today and warn you about upcoming events for which you need to prepare. A reminder on April 15 that taxes are due may be too little too late. To be effective, the tax reminder should appear earlier, perhaps on March 15 with the note: taxes due one month, get to work.
