Chapter 9. New Learning Technology

Today’s world is filled with tools to help enrich and expand when, where, and how you learn. No longer is the learner limited to the printed page or the lecture hall. No longer is the library a place that specializes only in books. Audiotapes, videotapes, CD ROMs, the Internet, and computer programs all bring the power of technology to the act of learning.

Many schools, colleges, and companies are investing heavily in high-tech learning equipment. Home computers, the Internet, VCRs, and audiotape recorders also make it possible to take advantage of these advances at home, while you travel, and even in your car. By becoming familiar and comfortable with these learning tools, you can expand your learning options, increase the time you devote to self-improvement, and add valuable technology-related skills to your list of abilities.
