Learner Centered Reading: a Four-Step Process

STEP 1:. Consider What You Know

To focus your concentration at the beginning of a reading session, you must first link what you already know with what you are about to read. Look over the title of the chapter and read the first paragraph of a new reading assignment. Think about previous material that led up to this section. Write down a few things that you already know about the topic.

STEP 2:. Predict What You’ll Learn

Anticipating or predicting what comes next will prepare your mind to receive new information. Pose a series of questions to yourself that you believe should be answered by the text, then consider reading as the act of looking for the answers.
