Part II: Your Role on the Road to Consen... > Focus on Strengths, Not Weaknesses

Chapter 9. Focus on Strengths, Not Weaknesses

Even though you would like to leave some things behind, probably you will not get rid of all your unwanted baggage at one time. Therefore, it is important to create an environment where you and your colleagues get a chance to use the best of what is in your personal inventories. Focusing on strengths (not weaknesses) and looking for what you have in common (rather than what you disagree on) is usually the best way to move the group to consensus. The best way to create this environment is for you to be a role model for the rest of the group. If you focus on your best attributes and those of others and you work to leave your undesirable baggage behind, you will have packed smartly for your trip to Consensusville.

Idea: “We must be the change we wish to see in the world.”
