Chapter 15. Your Role

The first place to address the problems listed in this chapter is with you. Make sure you provide a positive model to the rest of the group. Check your suitcase to make sure that none of those items you wanted to leave behind came with you. Nothing is more exasperating than to have the worst offender preach to the rest of the group about how everyone else should clean up his or her act. Do the best that you can to be sensitive to your own actions. Ask others for direct, honest feedback. Pay attention to what they say and what they don’t say. Do not be quick to help everyone else without considering areas you might need help in. If you need some help, ask for it.

Example: “I know that I have a tendency to dominate the conversation and I’ll try not do it. The next time that I run on, would someone please give me a sign?”
