Predefine the Options-Rating Criteria

Once you have identified the desired outcomes, the next step is to find an objective way of rating the options against a list of criteria. Remember, you have not begun to define options yet.

When software programmers design a new program, the first thing they do is define the requirements (desired outcomes) for the software program. Then they define the testing (options-rating criteria) that will be done to determine if the software program meets the requirements. This approach helps with the option creation process because it identifies important criteria. As you get the criteria listed, check with yourself and each member of the group to ensure that each supports all items.
