Chapter 19. Lessons Learned

Good organizational skills can significantly save you time and reduce stress in today’s hectic pace of life. The key is to find or develop a system that works for you.

  • Be realistic about personal organizational habits that are working and those that are not.

  • Accept your basic organizational style and refine it until it works for you.

  • Set up an office space you enjoy being in. Be creative if it’s not ideal (a poster of your favorite tropical island beats a blank wall).

  • Define your own rules for the office arrangement that meets your needs. Keep frequently used items near at hand. Hike to the garage for the 1990 tax records.

  • Take control by turning down the inward flow of paper and information.

  • Take advantage of electronic helpers to ease your load.

  • Develop a personal information planning system that you can live with .. not one that others think you should use.
