Part II: What You Need to Know About Gri... > Understanding Attitudes And Behavior...

Chapter 8. Understanding Attitudes And Behaviors

DISTRUST: After the shockwave of a sudden reorganization announcement and the layoffs and other changes that typically follow, employees may feel as though “the rug has been pulled out from under them.” The trust level with the company takes a nose dive, and people who feel betrayed develop a generally suspicious, “save-your-own-skin” attitude. Some organizations have reported suspicion among peers and a withholding of information for fear of advancing somebody else’s interests.

RESENTMENT: Bitter resentment, especially toward those “above” in the organizational hierarchy, can develop as the known and secure workplace becomes cold and uncertain.
