Case Two: Monotonous Work

The employees in Khalil’s department have a reputation as the organization’s technical mavericks. Individually and collectively they have distinguished themselves by finding technical solutions for difficult problems.

Deteriorating economic conditions have forced the organization to eliminate several less cost-effective departments. A wide variety of routine, rather monotonous maintenance work has been assigned to several departments. Despite improved economic conditions, the organization is reluctant to hire staff to take back this work. Khalil’s “technical mavericks” are overworked and stressed. Even overtime pay has lost its impact.
