Absolute Phrase

An absolute phrase is a group of words consisting of a noun or pronoun, a participle, as well as any modifiers. Absolute phrases do not connect to or modify any other word in a sentence; instead, they modify the entire sentence. Absolute phrases are often treated as parenthetical elements set off from the rest of the sentence with a comma or pair of commas.
