Chapter 24. Online communication > Achieve the objective of the message

Achieve the objective of the message

Before constructing your e-mail message, you should determine its objective. For example, possible objectives of your e-mail message could be “inform the development team of the upcoming workshop schedule” or “Announce Dan Smith’s retirement.” After you have determined your objective, complete these steps to make certain you’ve constructed your message in a way that achieves the objective:

  1. Consider your recipient.

  2. Anticipate your recipient’s reaction.

  3. Outline your message.

  4. Develop a draft of your e-mail message.

  5. Edit your e-mail message.
