Chapter 15. Message headers > Contents of a header

Contents of a header

An e-mail message’s header includes the To, Cc, and Bcc fields. It also includes the date and time a message was sent. Another portion of the header is the subject line. Effective subject lines help recipients accurately identify messages before reading them. In addition, some e-mail programs offer an attachments line in the header of the e-mail message.

The To field

The To field is where you type the recipient’s e-mail address. To add more than one recipient, separate the addresses with a semicolon (;). If you add a recipient's name to this field, then the message is sent to that recipient, and the recipient's name is visible to other recipients of the message. Always check the address you type to make sure it’s correct. Recipients receiving your e-mail message will be able to determine who the message was sent to by checking the Cc and To fields.
