Attachments

Attachments are files sent or received in e-mail messages. You can attach a variety of file types to an e-mail message. Attachments can be audio clips, graphic images, programs, or word-processing documents. Attaching files can help e-mail users because it allows users to send valuable information that is too lengthy or awkward to be included in the body of a message. Attachments also reduce the time spent on writing messages by enabling you to include files that illustrate important points.

For example, if a supervisor needs to remind employees of the importance of knowing and adhering to copyright laws when writing e-mail messages, an e-mail message with an attachment containing federal copyright laws could be sent to all employees. Sending the laws in an attachment saves time because it contains important points that the supervisor would otherwise need to explain in the message. It also gives employees access to information they might not have earlier.
