Emoticons

Forming a picture from a combination of punctuation marks and letters creates emoticons, or emotion icons, as shown below. These icons can be used to indicate sarcasm, apathy, confusion, happiness, and so on. For example, an e-mail user might put a smiley face after a piece of text to indicate that it was intended as a joke. Some wordprocessing programs automatically change your punctuation marks into a corresponding picture. If you have never used emoticons, you must tilt your head to the left to see the pictures.
