Practicing Common Sense (Part 2)

Principles 1 (“Know what you're trying to do) and 2 (“There is always a sequence of events”) provide a very powerful way of tackling any problem. We saw this at work in Chapter 7, Example 42. Establish what it is you're trying to do using Principle 1. Now ask yourself—using Principle 2—what the starting point is. What is the first job in the sequence of events? In Example 42, we established that it was to figure out what it was we were trying to sell. Again using Principle 2, ask yourself what happens next. What's the next job in the sequence of events, the next link in the chain? As you identify each job, some of our principles might offer further insights.

Carry on like this until you have established an unbroken sequence of jobs from where you are now to where you want to be.
