E-trusion

About 76 million people in the United States had cell phones in 1999, 123 million carried them in 2001, and by 2003 about half of all Americans will be carrying one.[5] This is not totally good news. So many people find it so unpleasant to be near someone speaking loudly on a wireless phone that in a survey of almost 3,000 people, 60 percent said they'd rather visit the dentist.[6] In the theater the loudest and longest applause often follows the now-standard announcement, “Please turn off all cell phones.” Frankly, I never wanted to know as much about total strangers as I now learn every day because people seem to really miss the wires. That's the only explanation I can think of to explain why they shout so loudly into their wireless phones.

Irish poet John O'Donohue wrote, “Email is like coming home at night after a long day and finding 70 people in your kitchen.”[7]
