We used to ship goods. Now we “ship” information.

The new economy is called the information economy because information has become its most important product. Today, as organizations sell services and products that make other organizations more efficient or they enable individuals to become more productive, the primary products being exchanged are ideas and data. In the era of computers, and especially since the development of the Web, there are virtually no barriers to the efficient transmission of knowledge. As a result, there are few secrets. Little can be unique for long. For a brief moment, the first one in the sandbox has no competition, lower costs, and an easier time getting branded. For a millisecond, the first to grab turf has a shot at getting the whole enchilada.
