Once again thanks to Andy Shafran, who realizes that a book about working with color images deserves nothing less than a full-color treatment, and knows how to publish such a book at a price that everyone can afford. It’s refreshing to work for a publisher who has actually written best-selling books on imaging, too. Also, thanks to senior acquisitions editor Kevin Harreld, for valuable advice as the book progressed, as well as project editor, Jenny Davidson; book/cover designer, Chad Planner, Pop Design Works; interior designer, Bill Hartman; proofreader, Kate Shoup Welsh; and indexer, Sharon Shock.

Also thanks to my agent, Carole McClendon, who has the amazing ability to keep both publishers and authors happy.

Special thanks go out to Konica Minolta Photo Imaging U.S.A. for their extended loan of a top-of-the-line digital camera for the half-year it took to produce this book. I worked with more than a dozen digital cameras to produce the images you’ll find in these pages, from teensy point-and-shoot snapshooters through 14-megapixel professional models. But time and again, when the chips were down, I kept returning to my Minolta DiMAGE. Why? I’m a photographer, and the DiMAGE operates like an honest-to-gosh camera. The results were great, too.
