Go Wide! Go Wide!

No matter how important it is to focus on the action in a photograph, sometimes you've got to go with a wide shot. Not because the action isn't always important, but because sometimes what's going on can't be contained in a teeny space.

Many sports are dramatic enough that they can be captured in an engaging way using a wide-angle lens. Think of a group of track-and-field runners sprinting to the finish, each reaching out to cross the line first. Or kayakers plunging down waterfalls with water crashing all around them (Figure 10.9).
