Documenting Your Family's Life

Photojournalists (the people who take the pictures you see in newspapers and magazines) have a different approach to photography than portrait photographers do. To a photojournalist (called a “PJ” in the business), everything is a documentary happening in real time. Instead of looking to capture the most flattering view of an event, a PJ strives to capture the most realistic view, blemishes and all.

This isn't always the most flattering way to photograph your family, but in some situations it can result in truly amazing photographs. Documentary photography works best in capturing a special event or period of time when a family or a family member undergoes some changes.
