Slide Shows in the Modern Age

Someday people are going to wonder where the term slide show comes from, as the use of film fades into memory. In order to give photographers a familiar metaphor for creating a computer-based display of chosen photographs, software designers chose to call the new tools by the old name.

Modern slide shows are so much more powerful than the carousel-based displays of days gone by. These days you can create slide shows that play music while your photographs are displayed. Slide shows can even include annotation and special effects and can be saved to CD or DVD or even emailed so that other people can view your shows as well. And you don't need to hang a blanket from the wall for everyone to see them.
