Using an inkjet printer

With the advent of cheap inkjet printers, everyone suddenly had the capability of cheaply printing his own color images. While this was practical and cost effective, the images were far from archival. Most of the prints would only last a few years at best, and as a result, weren't appropriate for any pictures you wanted to last a long time, such as fine art prints (giclée) or even family photos like our baby picture shown in Figure A.

A. If you want an image like this to last, it needs to be printed on archival stock.
