Portable storage devices

In a typical day, most digital photography enthusiasts can blow through a 64 MB memory card without too much trouble, dumping the images on their computer's hard drive whenever the card fills up. But what happens when you go on vacation and you're away from your computer? Now everything begs to be photographed, and that 64 MB memory card isn't quite meeting your storage needs. Sure, you could buy a larger card (or cards), but even the larger-capacity cards will hold only a portion of the photos you'd like to take, especially if you're shooting at higher resolutions. Or, you might consider carrying a laptop computer everywhere you go, but that adds more weight and liability to your travels.

Many digital photographers are turning to new portable storage devices that allow you to download the contents of your memory card to a large-capacity hard drive without the use of a computer. These gadgets are small, mobile, and easy to use whether you're on vacation or just away from your computer. And, with storage capacities on the rise while prices are dropping, now may be the time to consider getting one for your digital photography setup.
