Chapter One. Why Digital? > The Excitement of Digital Photography

The Excitement of Digital Photography

Anyone who has ever been in a traditional darkroom remembers that first time they watched an image emerge through the developer. It didn't matter what the image was of; the photographer felt welcomed into a magical world of chemistry, muted red lights, and yellow boxes filled with sheets of paper that would bring their images to life. Now in the 21st century, although fewer and fewer people are venturing into a wet darkroom, they are also experiencing a magical moment, when for the first time they successfully download a card of digital images to their computer, open the files, and are able to zoom in to see every detail as crisp and clear as the moment the picture was taken. Who among us can forget the feeling of excitement the first time we sat down with Adobe Photoshop and in a few mouse clicks changed a picture from blah to fantastic. Digital photography is simply fun to do, and in the following pages we will discuss why and show you a few examples that will get you started on your way to being a better digital photographer.
