Preparing to Print

In Chapters 10 and 11. we showed you how to perfect your image, saving the result as an archival master image. Having a perfect image file is great, but the final print is the defining result for the photographer. An accurate printer profile helps ensure that you will be able to produce the most accurate prints possible.

Printer Types

Preparing your image file for printing involves resizing it for the output dimensions you want, sharpening that final image, and then sending the image file to the printer with appropriate settings that will ensure an accurate, high-quality print. Understanding how the various printer types work will help ensure you get the results you want, and give you a better understanding of how to prepare the image for output on a specific printer. In particular, it can be helpful to understand the resolution capabilities of various output methods.
