Monitor Profiling

We can't stress enough how important it is that you have an accurate display on your monitor, and we highly recommend that you calibrate and profile your monitor about once a month. The monitor is the focal point of the digital darkroom. The final product may be a print from your photo inkjet printer, but the monitor is what you use to evaluate the accuracy of the print, and that same display is how you decide which adjustments are necessary to optimize the image. If your monitor display is inaccurate, every image-editing decision you make will simply be a blind roll of the dice.

Profiling your monitor is a two-step process. First, calibrate the display to adjust the display settings to get the monitor as close as possible to established standards. Then generate a profile that describes the color characteristics of the monitor. This is sometimes referred to as characterizing the display.
